A casual meetup for individuals and businesses that want to know more about bitcoin in a friendly public atmosphere!
At Columbus Ohio Bitcoin Meetup, we are committed to learning about and promoting bitcoin for financial freedom without barriers. Our events and activities are designed to create a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of background or identity. Bitcoin is for everyone.
Bitcoin allows you to store and move value. Make a transaction with anyone, anywhere in the world on the most secure P2P payment network. Anyone with a smartphone and an internet connection can send and receive bitcoin. You do not need to ask permission and you don't need to register with an authority. Secure and backup your keys and you now own an unbreakable digital vault.
Bitcoin miners submit blocks with transactions they have validated while competing against other miners for block rewards. If the nodes verify the block follows consensus rules, a new block is added to their chain. The system prevents double spending by way of "Proof of Work", an integral part of the Nakamoto Consensus algorithm. This process is named after the inventor - Satoshi Nakamoto.
The bitcoin network is the largest and most secure digital ledger (blockchain) in the world and it's available to everyone. A bitcoin transaction can not be undone once it has been written into the blockchain. Developers who build upon bitcoin rely on the security and resistance to censorship the blockchain provides to Layer 2 solutions, such as the Lightning Network and Liquid.
With 8 pages, the creator(s) of bitcoin described a solution to the hard money problem. Fourteen years later the system is still working exactly as intended with a new block added to the chain every 10 minutes.

It's easy, just show up! The Columbus Ohio bitcoin meetup happens every other Tuesday on the north side of Columbus at 16-Bit Bar and Arcade in Dublin. Casual and family friendly environment can be expected, just look around and it won't be difficult to find other bitcoiners!
Never. The venue will be in a public space whenever possible. We respect our venue of choice (16-Bit Bar and Arcade) by supporting them with our beer and beverage purchases!
Yes! Whether new to bitcoin or long time hodler, you will find other people with your interests and experience. Learning to use bitcoin is not complicated but alt-coin discussions will simply confuse a beginner. There's so much to discuss about bitcoin!
Ask people you trust like friends and family. Odds are you will find someone who knows about bitcoin or knows someone who owns bitcoin. And use your own head! Be wary of fraudsters and crypto scams. They are everywhere but they aren't bitcoin.
